04/05/2025 09:00 AM - 11:30 AM ET

Description

You are invited to attend the BPC 2025 Pond Summit, on Saturday, April 5, from 9 - 11:30 AM. The theme of this year’s event is Chemicals of Emerging Concern, a topic in the news of late both nationally and on Cape Cod.

The Summit will feature two speakers on this topic. Tom Cambareri, Water Resource Specialist and Hydrologist with Sole Source Consulting, will provide background information about Chemicals of Emerging Concern and describe his work with municipal and private clients on water resources issues including groundwater modeling of PFAS contamination and remedial actions. Tom Barr, Deputy Director of Public Works for the Town of Chatham, will explain the PFAS issue in Chatham, including when and how they were detected in the drinking water, the options considered to remediate the problem, and the course of action being taken.

The Pond Summit is free and open to the public. It will begin with registration, coffee, and pastries at 9 AM, followed by the presentations from 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM, at the Brewster Baptist Church, 1848 Main Street. Please use the link above to register.

This year’s event is being sponsored by The Leighton Team, a BPC business partner.

Our speakers:

Tom Cambareri is a practicing hydrogeologist and proprietor of Sole Source Consulting, LLC.  Tom works with interested parties on water resource management issues including water supply, wastewater, coastal and freshwater quality and offers services in hydrogeologic contaminant assessments, remedial solutions, wastewater management and effluent disposal and groundwater modeling.

As the Director of Water Resources at the Cape Cod Commission for 30 years, Tom focused on the protection and restoration of water quality and water resources management. Tom’s highlights include: technical review of Comprehensive wastewater plans; the 1978 and 2015 Update of the Cape Cod 208 Regional Wastewater Management Plan; the long-term cleanup at the Joint Base Cape Cod; water supply assessments with the Outer Cape towns and National Seashore; the Cape Cod Ponds and Lakes Stewardship (PALS) project; the Mass Estuary Project (MEP); five (5) regional groundwater modeling projects with the US Geological Survey; and management of the groundwater cleanup of Hydrocarbons, MTBE, Perchlorate and PFAS at the County’s Fire Training Academy.  He managed a team of 5 water scientists that assisted the regulatory and planning mission of the Commission.

Tom presently serves a number of municipal and private clients on water resources issues including: groundwater modeling of PFAS contamination, wastewater disposal and surface water impacts from water withdrawals; peer review of golf course monitoring programs in Southampton NY; independent review of PFAS assessments and remedial actions; and water quality and level monitoring programs.

Tom Barr has been Chatham's Deputy Director of Public Works since June 26, 2023.

Tom is a familiar face to Chatham, due to his long tenure with Chatham’s contracted Water and Sewer Operations vendor, Weston & Sampson. Mr. Barr’s career with Weston & Sampson began in 2009 when he was hired as the Assistant Chief Water Operator. Since then, Mr. Barr has been promoted internally twice, holding the role of Chief Water Operator from 2019 through 2021 and has been Weston & Sampson’s Project Manager since his most recent promotion in 2021. Prior to Tom’s tenure with Weston & Sampson, he was a Water Operator for Earth Tech, which is the company that held Chatham’s Water and Sewer Operations contract at that time, from 1998 through 2009.

Tom resides in Harwich with his wife and two children. He is an assistant coach for the Monomoy High School softball program and also operates a youth softball program called Cape Cod Chaos with over 100 athletes participating.
